Appeal to buy painting of Strawberry Hill as it was between 1755 and 1758
Strawberry Hill House has launched an appeal to buy a view of Horace Walpole’s new gothic building in its earliest state. The picture is one of only two contemporary records of the. House at that time (the other is in the Lewis Walpole Library) and was commissioned by Walpole from Johann Heinrich Müntz and painted between 1755 and 1758.

Two generous supporters have pledged to match donations, meaning that every gift made will go twice as far to meeting the £85,000 needed to bring this important painting home.
